About Saint Augustine Lecture Series
The Saint Augustine Lecture Series is a diocesan initiative organized by the Office for Pastoral Services. Begun in March, 2006, its aim is to foster the ongoing faith formation of the laity and to provide a vehicle for evangelizing the culture.
Bishop Lori has named this initiative in honor of Saint Augustine, the patron of the Diocese and a model for us in searching for the truth and of vigor in evangelization. The series was inaugurated by a beautiful and profound lecture given by Father Raniero Cantalamessa O.F.M. Cap., Preacher to the Papal Household, on this past March 2, 2006 on the topic of “Reconciliation and Personal Conversion.”
We invite all of you to participate and bring others. This lecture series is an integral part of our evangelization efforts throughout the Diocese, providing a forum to help adults to deepen their spiritual life, to have the opportunity to know more about the faith, and to share it actively. It is also a concrete opportunity to reach out to fallen-away Catholics and to anyone who is interested in knowing more about the Catholic faith.
Since the Pastoral Plan is centered in the liturgy, we want to offer opportunities for parishioners to grow in their devotion to the Real Presence of the Lord Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. For that reason, prior to each Lecture, we will provide Eucharistic Adoration and Benediction. Opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Penance will be available as well.
We invite all the members of our family of faith to participate, and to bring others along. This is evangelization!
